Homemaking Monday: Spring Burlap Cushions

So I finally decided to join the burlap craze and make some cute cushions ready for spring. There is snow outside and it is freezing cold in my flat... but whatever.
I have Spring in my heart!

This is my first time working with burlap and I am very pleased with how it came out!

Here is the tutorial....

Materials needed:

Burlap
Sewing Machine
Glue Gun if you are lazy like me
Needle and Thread
Scrap Fabric in spring colours
A Sharpie
Printed out words in font of your choice.

1. Print out your words and cut out some burlap to the size you want your cushion to be.

2. Place the paper under the burlap and using your sharpie, trace the words from underneath.

3. Pick some fabric for your side strip and sew on.

4. Sew together the pillow case, right side to right side. Don't forget to leave a gap you can turn right side out again.

5. Turn pillow case right side out and stuff with stuffing.

6.If you are lazy like me then seal the remaining gap with a glue gun... but you can totally stitch it shut properly too. :-)

7. To finish off I just added some scrap fabric yoyo's and buttons. If you don't know how to make yoyo's then check out my tutorial here.

8. Stand back and admire your hard work!

Enjoy. :-)

  3. love these for a spring look and another reason is I don't think the kids would use these to lay on as burlap is not the most comfortable

  12. Your pillows look great! I really like the burlap, but I have to ask you, does your smell? I bought some bulap from Hobby Lobby and it smells; I also checked at Walmart and theirs smells too. So I am just asking! :)

  14. oh what a wonderful pillows!! thanks for the tutorial, can i ask what kind of pen are you using? and how exactly to transfer the words on the paper to the burlap using a sharpie? (sorry i'm kinda of dumb :) . I really want to try this! Thanks for sharing!

  15. Miss Tea: I tried finding your blog but couldn't so I hope you are able to find your answer back here! :) I used a Black Sharipe. It is just a permanent black marker. Any brand would do. To transfer the words I just put the paper with the printed words under the fabric and traced. Because burlap is a holey fabric you can see the words easily. If you have trouble you can go around the words on the paper with a black marker to make them bolder and stand out more. So you just simple place the paper with the words under the fabric and trace onto the fabric. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any more questions. :)
